Four Years: Oyo Iyaloja-General, Princess Abeo, Iyaloja Oyoland, Bakare thank Gov. Makinde for reconstructing Akesan market
In commemorating the four years anniversary of the remodelled Akesan Market in Oyo, the Iyaloja-General of Oyo State, Princess Folashade Abeo, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his prompt attention towards the reconstruction of ultra-modern Akesan Market in Oyo town, declaring that the development has been able to boost the State’s economy.
Abeo, who equally commended the governor for ensuring that original shop owners got their allocations first before other shops were let out by the developers, added that the newly and completely reconstructed Akesan Market has modern day facilities including industrial boreholes and proper road network.
She stated these on Friday in a statement jointly signed by her and the Iyaloja of Oyoland, Chief (Mrs) Adepeju Adijat Bakare.
The duo commended the governor’s swift efforts at changing the status of the market to international standard as promised.
They expressed the appreciation on behalf of Oyomesi, Oyo Royal Houses, particularly the Alowolodus, the entire Oyo market traders and people of Oyoland at home and abroad, applauding the fact that the historical feat was achieved during the reign of the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.
According to them, Governor Makinde’s proactive approach to infrastructure development, has transformed Oyo State, as well as brought about positive change in the state even in the face of daunting economic challenges.
Recall that the Akesan market, said to have been in existence for 400 years, was razed in January 2020.
Many shops and properties were destroyed in the inferno following a delay in the arrival of fire services at the scene of the incident.
However, seventeen months later, the governor rebuilt the market with a number of developments including 691 shops, a police post, clinic, two car parks, and a cold room.
The Iyaloja general of Oyo state prayed that bad things wouldn’t happen in markets around the state while advising all traders to assume personal responsibility for the upkeep of the Akesan market.
