Goods and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a fire outbreak at the popular Saki Garage in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred late in the night, affected four out of eleven shops situated inside the garage. Although valuable goods were lost, no life was reported to have been lost.
Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, said the Agency was alerted by a passerby.

According to him: “The fire incident was reported by a running caller, Mr. Lateef, from Amotekun Bodija Division, who informed us of shops on fire at the above address.

“The fire personnel led by ACFS Adedeji (Mrs) swiftly responded and deployed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we discovered that four out of eleven shops were engulfed by fire. Our officers immediately swung into action, curtailed the inferno, and prevented it from spreading to nearby shops and buildings. The fire was completely extinguished.
“No casualty was recorded. The remote cause of the fire was traced to lighted embers left unattended after the close of business, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the place ablaze.

“Four shops were affected, but properties worth millions of naira were also saved by the officers of the Agency.”
Akinwande urged members of the public to always be fire-conscious and take preventive measures.
He emphasized the importance of keeping fire service emergency numbers handy and advised households and business owners to install fire extinguishers in their premises to reduce the risk of future disasters.
