The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken another decisive step toward strengthening its presence in the Southwest with the inauguration of its Southwest Zonal Working Committee in Ibadan, Oyo State.

One of the major highlights of the event was the emergence of Alhaja Khafilat Omolabake Olayiwola, a former Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs under Governor Seyi Makinde’s Omituntun 1.0 administration (2019–2023), as Deputy National Women Leader (Oyo) of the ADC. Alhaja Olayiwola, who hails from Ido Local Government Area, brings her administrative experience into the party’s national leadership structure.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday at Kakanfo Inn, Off Ring Road, Ibadan, during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting that drew party leaders, state chairmen, and key stakeholders from the six Southwest states.

Presiding over the meeting was the National Secretary of the party, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, alongside other national leaders. Chairmen from Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo States presented reports on party organisation, grassroots penetration, and readiness for upcoming political activities.

The briefings, which started with Hon. Ilesanmi Omolayo of Ekiti State and ended with Hon. Ashiru George of Lagos State, reflected growing confidence in the ADC’s organisational stability and expansion across the region.

Addressing the gathering, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola charged party officials and stakeholders to prioritise unity, discipline, and strategic coordination, describing them as essential tools for building a strong and credible alternative political platform for Nigerians.

He also emphasised the importance of sustained engagement with the national leadership to ensure proper harmonisation, validation, and accuracy of party officers at all levels.
