Eid-il-fitri: Afonja felicitates with Muslim Faithful, sues for peace in Ogbomosoland
As the Muslim faithful across the globe celebrate Eid-il-fitri, Prof. AbdulRahman Afonja, a prominent People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Oyo State Commissioner for Works and Transport, has extended warm greetings and felicitations to Muslims in Ogbomosoland, Oyo state and across Nigeria.
In his goodwill message signed and issued to MOUTHPIECE NGR on Tuesday, Afonja emphasized the significance of peace and unity during this festive period, calling on all residents to embrace harmonious coexistence for the development and progress of Ogbomoso community.
Afonja, known for his commitment to community development and grassroots engagement, however highlighted the importance of religious tolerance and understanding among diverse ethnic and religious groups in Ogbomosoland.
He urged Muslims to reflect on the teachings of Ramadan, which promote virtues such as compassion, empathy, and respect for one another.
In his address, Afonja stated, “Eid-il-fitri is a time of joy, reflection, and spiritual renewal. It is imperative that we use this occasion to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood within our community. Let us embrace peace, dialogue, and mutual respect as we celebrate this auspicious festival.”
The PDP stalwart also used the opportunity to commend the efforts of religious leaders, community elders, and various stakeholders in promoting peaceful coexistence and fostering unity among residents of Ogbomosoland.
He emphasized the need for continuous collaboration and dialogue to address communal challenges and enhance the quality of life for all.
Afonja further reiterated his commitment to advocating for equitable development and socio-economic empowerment initiatives that benefit every segment of society.
He encouraged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and actively participate in initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and progress in the region.
