President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the victory of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, describing it as a clear sign of the people’s endorsement of his administration’s economic policies.

In a statement released on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu noted that the victory reflects widespread public support for the APC’s progressive ideals and the government’s ongoing economic reengineering efforts.

“The victory testifies to the people’s support for the ruling party, its progressive ideals, its economic reengineering programme, and its commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians,” President Tinubu said.

While congratulating Senator Okpebholo on his electoral success, the President urged him to approach his new role with humility, emphasizing that the victory should not be seen as an opportunity for gloating but as a call to service. Tinubu called on Okpebholo to extend a hand of reconciliation to his political rivals and unite the people of Edo State in pursuit of development and progress.

Tinubu also commended the other candidates in the election for their contributions to the democratic process. He praised the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that political contests like these demonstrate the growing maturity of Nigeria’s democracy.

In addition, the President lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their efforts in ensuring a credible and largely peaceful election process. He underscored INEC’s commitment to organizing free and fair elections, highlighting its importance in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic foundations.

“I commend the INEC and our security agencies for working round the clock to conduct a successful, peaceful, and largely hitch-free exercise. The orderly conduct of the people of Edo further underscores the maturing of Nigeria’s democracy after 25 years,” Tinubu added.

Senator Okpebholo’s victory, according to the President, stands as a clear mandate from the people, reaffirming their trust in the APC’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria.
