Honourable Olusina John Ogunsola, a renowned youth advocate and progressive leader, on [date], delivered a powerful keynote address at the Odo–Ona Nla Progressive Youth Summit, focusing on the pressing issue of Drug Abuse and Alcohol Addiction Among Nigerian Youth: Causes, Effects and Solutions.

Speaking before a large gathering of young people, community leaders and stakeholders, Hon. Ogunsola described drug abuse and alcohol addiction as one of the most dangerous threats confronting Nigeria’s youth population, warning that its continued spread could undermine the nation’s social stability, economic growth and future leadership.

In his address, Hon. Ogunsola identified key causes of substance abuse among Nigerian youth, including unemployment, peer pressure, poor parental guidance, mental health challenges, societal neglect and the easy availability of illicit substances. He emphasized that many young people turn to drugs and alcohol out of frustration, hopelessness and lack of proper support systems.

Highlighting the effects, he noted that drug abuse has led to rising cases of crime, school dropouts, health complications, broken families and wasted potential among youths who should otherwise be contributing positively to national development. He stressed that addiction not only destroys individuals but also weakens communities and burdens society at large.

Proffering solutions, Hon. Ogunsola called for a multi-dimensional approach involving government, families, schools, religious institutions and youth organizations. He advocated for intensified awareness campaigns, strengthened rehabilitation and counseling centers, job creation initiatives, youth empowerment programs and stricter enforcement of laws against drug trafficking and abuse. He also urged parents to be more involved in the lives of their children and encouraged youths to seek help rather than suffer in silence.

The Odo–Ona Nla Progressive Youth Summit provided a platform for robust discussions, interaction and renewed commitment to tackling drug abuse and alcohol addiction at the grassroots level. Participants commended Hon. Ogunsola for his insightful and practical presentation, describing it as timely, inspiring and solution-driven.

The summit concluded with a collective pledge by youths in attendance to serve as ambassadors against drug abuse and to promote healthy, productive lifestyles within their communities, in line with the vision shared by Hon. Olusina John Ogunsola.
