In the dynamic landscape of Nigerian governance, certain individuals stand out for transforming vision into action. One such leader is Dr. Akintomide Stephen Fagbemi, whose strategic leadership continues to advance Governor Seyi Makinde’s mission for a modern, people-centered Oyo State.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Fagbemi has earned his place not only in political circles but also as a symbol of pragmatic, development-driven governance. From his time as Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) to his current role as the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board (OYHMB), he has consistently delivered reforms that improve lives.

*Roads Then, Hospitals Now: A New Chapter of Impact*
As OYRTMA Chairman, Dr. Fagbemi brought order to chaos on the streets of Oyo State. Under his leadership, the agency introduced better enforcement strategies, public safety awareness, and traffic control systems that significantly reduced road accidents and commuter frustration. His methodical reforms turned OYRTMA into a model agency within Nigeria’s public transport management landscape.

Now, as the Chairman of OYHMB, Dr. Fagbemi is applying that same transformational energy to Oyo State’s healthcare system with remarkable results:

Infrastructure Modernization: Over the past year, several secondary health facilities across the state have been renovated and re-equipped under his supervision. These include general hospitals in Tede, Saki, and Ring Road, where outdated equipment was replaced, maternity wards upgraded, and diagnostic centers revitalized.

Digitization and Data Management: Dr. Fagbemi led the digitization of patient records in select hospitals, a move aimed at improving efficiency and patient outcomes. This step toward electronic medical records is a landmark in the state’s healthcare modernization journey.

Recruitment and Staff Welfare: Under his leadership, OYHMB has overseen the recruitment of over 500 medical personnel—doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and lab scientists—to fill critical gaps in public hospitals. He also prioritized training programs to keep the healthcare workforce up-to-date with global best practices.

Mobile Medical Outreach and Rural Access: Understanding the healthcare challenges in underserved communities, Dr. Fagbemi launched mobile outreach programs delivering essential services like immunization, antenatal care, and health screenings to rural populations.

These reforms echo Governor Makinde’s goal of making quality healthcare accessible and equitable across Oyo State—a key component of his “Omituntun 2.0” agenda.

*Beyond Government: Philanthropy and Grassroots Connection*
Dr. Fagbemi’s work goes far beyond policy. Through the Akin Fagbemi Foundation, he continues to drive grassroots development; donating hospital equipment, sponsoring health missions, providing scholarships, and supporting widows and small businesses. His foundation complements government action, ensuring that even the most marginalized citizens feel the impact of development.

As the Mogaji of Agunleyinju Compound in Ibadan, Dr. Fagbemi merges his traditional leadership role with modern governance, acting as a crucial link between community needs and government response. This dual role strengthens the community trust essential for sustainable policy implementation.

*Economic Footprint and Urban Growth*
Dr. Fagbemi’s leadership also extends to the business realm, particularly in real estate and infrastructure development. As CEO of Primeage Investment and Properties Limited, he contributes to urban renewal and job creation; helping realize Governor Makinde’s vision for economic diversification and infrastructural expansion.

*The Face of Integrated Leadership*
From transport reform to hospital revival, and from business development to philanthropy, Dr. Akin Fagbemi remains a key figure in Oyo State’s progress. His ability to combine empathy with executive function sets him apart as a true servant-leader. As Oyo State advances on its sustainable development path, Dr. Fagbemi’s multidimensional leadership stands as both a pillar and a blueprint.

He is not just the king of the street; he is now the vanguard of health, hope, and human capital development in Oyo State.
