The Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion under the leadership of Hon (Mrs) Toyin Balogun has responded to call on disability facilities in Oyo State.

In a personal statement by the Honourable Commissioner, she noted strongly as thus:

These kinds of incendiary posts with less than factual or zero up to date information are some of the reasons why professional journalists clamour for better regulation and enforcement of rules of engagement within the esteemed journalistic profession to ensure responsible reportage and conveyance of information to the public space

The intent of this post is not only mischievous,it’s also irresponsible and thus remains suspect.

If the intent were altruistic, the instigator(s) would have taken pains to do their due diligence, would have reached out to relevant authorities and would have been better informed with up to date information as to where things stand as at date,so as not to go this ignoble route

Just a couple of days ago,I asked for updates on this issue which is a Work in Progress at the ministry and was informed by my 2IC that the officials of the Ministry of Works (which is the sole government ministry with the mandate to generate Bills of Quantities and other requisite documents which detail the extent of work to be done and quantifies in naira terms, the exact financial resources required by the ministry which will be devolved to enable complete renovation or fresh construction of all State Government Construction Projects be it road or building) who have been at work in the past couple of months on this same issue in consonance with requisite officers of my Ministry who have been delegated to handle that assignment to generate the requisite details( BOQ et al)which will enable the requisite projects which have been duly identified and budgeted for in the year 2025 budget for the Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Inclusion to be actioned, have just moved to another one of the facilities mentioned in order to capture the requisite details which will enable us do the needful

The Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Inclusion is noted for being fully alive to its responsibilities and is on top of expectations on the delivery of its core mandates in providing succour for and meeting the social welfare needs of the Vulnerable Spectrum( women, children,
elderly, physically challenged & the indigent)of our state and this situation is no different

The leadership of the Ministry had duly noted the social welfare infrastructural deficits(which include a Shelter for Victims of Sexual & Gender Based Violence),among other renovation needs of the requisite social welfare facilities of the Ministry and appropriate budgetary provisions/appropriations to mitigate and rectify those identified social welfare infrastructural deficits have been duly made in the year 2025 budget

The Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Inclusion is also being actively supported to enable it meet its core mandates in this regard by requisite MDAs;the Ministry of Works, other requisite Ministries and the Executive arm of government inclusive

The initiator(s) of this ill intentioned write up are advised to refrain from playing to the gallery for whatever subterranean reason and are also advised to make ensure to make enquiries from relevant MDAs before such defective info are released to the public going forward.

That is the hallmark of responsible journalism, otherwise, the motive behind this writeup will remain suspect and should put any reader on enquiry.

Such unprofessional conduct damages or erodes the credibility of its purveyors.
