“Desperate Propaganda Won’t Prevail” — Ona-Ara PDP Rebukes Akinjide over False Defection Claims

The attention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ona-Ara Local Government, has been drawn to a misleading and sensational report published by Daily Post, attributed to one Mr. Akinjide Kazeem Akinola, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The report falsely claims that “scores of PDP members defected to APC in Oyo State.” We categorically reject this claim as not only fictitious but also a calculated attempt to distort facts and mislead the public as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to unfold.

For clarity, what transpired on May 3rd, 2025, is well known to all in Ona-Ara Local Government. The PDP held its well-attended monthly general meeting at the officially designated venue. Coincidentally, a faction of the APC from the Egbeda/Ona-Ara axis — led by a known serial political defector and aspirant — also gathered nearby in a desperate media stunt aimed at fabricating relevance and sowing confusion.

This same individual, who has made repeated but unsuccessful clandestine moves to join the PDP, is now orchestrating a charade in a bid to appear politically viable, especially after realizing that he faces stiff opposition within his own party for the APC ticket — a position already held by a fellow APC member.

For the record, the crowd assembled around him consisted largely of hired and financially induced APC loyalists. This was a spectacle funded to project false momentum where there is none.

In contrast, the PDP continues to gain genuine support at the grassroots. Notably, during our meeting, we welcomed members of the Association of Senior Citizens of Nigeria who officially joined our party following their positive engagement with Hon. Dr. Ezekiel Temitope Oladimeji (OTOPE) during his Medical Outreach held on Friday, May 2nd, 2025.

We advise Mr. Akinjide to desist from petty, juvenile politics and caution all media platforms to uphold ethical standards by verifying claims and fact-checking information before publication.

The PDP in Ona-Ara remains cohesive and formidable under the visionary leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, who continues to steer Oyo State on the path of progress and inclusive development.
