Democracy Day: Pray For Progress, Economy Stability of Our Nation- LGSPB Chairman, Hon Akeem Ige Urged Nigerians

The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige has admonished Nigerians to pray for progress, economic stability of our dear nation and remember our leaders at all levels in prayers as we celebrate Democracy Day.

Hon Akeem Ige gave the admonition in his Democracy Day message to management, staff, pensioners, all other stakeholders of the Board and Nigerians in general.

He said ” our leaders at all levels need prayers more than ever before in order to guide us in the right path to have socio- economic stability, peace and progress . I believe in the efficacy of prayer and we also need to contribute our own quota to have a Nigeria of our dream . Nation building is a collaborative effort and we must play our own parts individually and collectively to achieve desired results”.

Speaking further ” All hands must be on deck to ensure we take Nigeria to an enviable height among comity of nations . We must join hands with the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde as he strives to take the pacesetter state to a greater heights”.

The Chairman also said ” as we strive to advance our democratic development, there will be times when our will shall be tested , our patience provoked and our belief questioned. We must on those occasions remain resolute. Moments like this offer us an opportunity for reflection and rejuvenation so that the labours of our heroes that fought for this nascent democracy in the past shall never truly be in vain”.

“I therefore congratulate all Nigerians and wish you a happy 2024 Democracy Day celebration”.

Recall that in 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari declared June 12 , the date of the annulled 1993 election as the new date for celebration of Democracy Day instead of May 29. June 12, 1993 election was believed to be the freest, fairest, and most peaceful election since Nigeria”s Independence. MKO Abiola of the Social Democratic Party( SDP) won the election against Bashir Tofar of NRC. The election was annulled by President Ibrahim Badamosi Bababangida.
