The Oyo state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo ‘Ijaya’ today led a top delegation on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde, to the Palace of Late Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Lateef Adebimpe in Odinjo, Ibadan.
The visit was to properly convey the condolences of the Governor to the bereaved family over the loss of their patriarch.
The delegation which had the Personal Assistant to the governor, Alhaji Akeem Azeez, Chairman of Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sheikh Wahab Olamide Atere and Special Assistant to the Governor on Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Abdulrasheed arrived at the palace of the deceased monarch amidst an atmosphere of mourning and remembrance.
The deceased’s father, Oba Gbadamosi Akanbi Adebimpe, was the 35th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oba Adebimpe, who reigned for 18 months, was crowned on December 10, 1976, and joined his ancestors at the age of 85 on July 17, 1977.
Oba Lateef Adebimpe, passed away last night, Wednesday 24 at an advanced age of 79.
Governor Seyi Makinde, has earlier in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Pastor Sulaimon Olanrewaju expressed his condolences to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin and the Olubadan-in-Council over the death of the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe.
Governor Makinde, while describing the late oba as a charismatic personality that will be missed by the people of Ibadan and Oyo State, commiserated with the immediate family of the royal father and the people of the metropolis.
He prayed to God to grant repose to the soul of the oba, while also granting his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
In his words: “I express my condolences to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin and the Olubadan-in-Council on the demise of Oba Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland.
“Oba Adebimpe was a charismatic royal father, who will be missed by everyone.
“I pray to God to grant repose to his soul and grant the family members the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Earlier in his brief Sermon, Sheikh AbdulGaniy Agbotomokekere, the Chief Imam of Oyo state admonished congregants who were present to mourn the departed, to live a honest life bearing the last day they would also depart this life.
He expressed appreciation to governor Seyi Makinde for his exemplary and visionary leadership describing him as an epitome of integrity.
Prince Olasunbo Owolabi Olakulehin, Aremo Olubadan led the delegation comprising Elder Osuolale Olakulehin, and Pastor Adediji Olusoji from the Olubadan’s palace to the ceremony.
Members of the Olubadan in-council who graced the event include the Ekerin Olubadan, HRM Oba John Dada Isioye, the Arole Iba Oluyole; Alhaji Nureni Akanbi, and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja represented.
Other notable personalities present were the President of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Barrister Ajewole Ajeniyi and former CCII president, Chief Bayo Oyero.
