The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Narcotic Drugs, Rep. Abass Adigun (Agboworin), has commended the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for its ongoing nationwide clampdown on the production, distribution and sale of sachet alcohol.

The two-term lawmaker and Chairman, House Committee on Narcotic Drugs described the action as a clear validation of his earlier motion on public safety.
Agboworin said the decisive steps taken by NAFDAC speaks to the urgency and relevance of the motion he presented on the floor of the House, which called for the immediate ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages and other drug-related substances in and around motor parks across the country.

According to the lawmaker, the unchecked availability of sachet alcohol and illicit drugs in motor parks has become a major threat to road safety and public health.

He said: “I am encouraged by NAFDAC’s move to confront this growing menace head-on. Their clampdown clearly vindicates my motion and confirms that the concerns raised were not only valid but long overdue.”
He, however, urged the Federal, state and local governments, to take coordinated action to rid motor parks of alcohol and illicit drug sales, warning that the practice had become normalized despite its deadly consequences.
