The Executive Chairman of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, Alh AbdulRahman Olanrewaju Adepoju has advised residents of Ibadan Northwest Local Government and Oyo State in general to adhere strictly to preventive measures against potential cholera outbreak in the state.
According to the Chairman, Cholera is an acute diarrhoea infection caused by the bacterium vibrio cholerea infecting people through contaminated food and water. Thus, all concerned agencies must work as a team to prevent the spread of the disease to Oyo State.
Alh Adepoju reiterated that about 30 states in the country have been reported to be experiencing cholera outbreak presently, hence the need to take necessary precautions against the break out in our communities.
The Council Boss enjoined the citizenry to maintain a clean environment by sweeping their surroundings and washing their toilets regularly.
He further advised nursing mothers to take proper care of their children by monitoring what they eat, drink and the environment where they mingle with friends.
He maintained that cholera is a contagious disease that must be prevented from being broken out in any community. Adding that the breakout may lead to loss of lives if not adequately prevented.
The Chairman also implored all food vendors within the Council area to prepare their food under hygienic condition stressing that cholera could easily be contracted from contaminated food and water.
Alh Adepoju commended the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for all necessary proactive measures being taken to prevent the breakout of Cholera in the state.
The Executive Chairman enjoined all and sundry in the state to co-operate with health workers in the state to avert breakout of cholera in the state by reporting any unusual symptoms in their body to nearby health care facilities for immediate and adequate treatment.
