House of Representatives Member representing the Ibadan South East/North East federal constituency, Rep. Abass Adigun, popularly known as Agboworin, has urged the residents of Oyo State to adhere strictly to preventive guidelines, in a bid to combat further spread of cholera outbreak in the state.
Agboworin, in a statement signed on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mayowa Okekale, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, expressed concern on the pandemic, which has led to the death of some citizens while some are still currently hospitalized.
While calling for vigilance and precautions to prevent the potential spread of the infection in the state, Agboworin urged residents and Nigerian citizens to maintain good hygiene, keep their environment clean always.
The lawmaker, while equally commending the efforts of the state government, emphasized that he was sure the current administration, being led by governor Seyi Makinde, would contain the spread just the way it contained the COVID-19 pandemic a few years ago.
The statement read: “As a result of the cholera pandemic, I want to urge all the residents of our state to practically adhere to precautionary measures prescribed by health experts. There is a need for us to all take immediate and coordinated action to contain the outbreak.
“I remember vividly that, in the wake of Covid-19 in our state, His Excellency, Governor Makinde, took the bold step to implement some preventive measures to contain the pandemic. Just the way that was done, Oyo State will also replicate its action to halt further spread of cholera in the state because healthcare remains top priority on the governor’s agenda.
“I commend the government for making progress in this regard to prevent record of casualties in the state.”
