BREAKING: Ona Ara Local Government Attains Open Defecation Free (ODF) Status

The Executive Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Dr. Temitope Kolapo GLORIOUS, is pleased to formally announce that Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State has been officially validated as Open Defecation Free (ODF) by the National Task Group on Sanitation (NTGS).

This important validation was publicly confirmed on Tuesday, March 25, 2026, by the Clean Nigeria Campaign through its official X (formerly Twitter) platform, where Ona Ara Local Government was listed among the newly certified Open Defecation Free Local Government Areas in Nigeria. With this latest achievement, the number of validated ODF LGAs across the country has now risen to 170.

This landmark accomplishment represents a major public health and environmental sanitation milestone for Ona Ara Local Government and stands as a testament to the commitment, resilience, and collective responsibility of our people in embracing hygienic and sustainable sanitation practices.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Temitope Kolapo GLORIOUS, described the recognition as a historic and collective achievement for the entire Ona Ara Local Government.

“This validation is not only a recognition of our progress in sanitation and environmental health, but also a clear indication of what can be achieved through responsible leadership, effective community engagement, and shared commitment to the wellbeing of our people. This success belongs to every household, every community leader, every sanitation officer, and every resident of Ona Ara.”

The Chairman further stated that the attainment of ODF status aligns with the administration’s broader developmental agenda aimed at promoting public health, environmental sustainability, and improved quality of life for all residents of Ona Ara Local Government.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to ensuring that the status is not only maintained but strengthened through sustained public sensitization, hygiene promotion, improved sanitation infrastructure, and strategic monitoring mechanisms.

The Executive Chairman uses this opportunity to sincerely appreciate all stakeholders whose dedication and collaboration contributed immensely to this achievement, including traditional rulers, community leaders, health officers, sanitation workers, development partners, market leaders, youth groups, women associations, and residents across the eleven wards of Ona Ara Local Government.

This validation further positions Ona Ara as a progressive and development-driven local government that is making measurable contributions to national targets in sanitation, health, and grassroots transformation.
