The Federal Government is set to Introduce toll gates on major highways across the country, including the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and the Second Niger Bridge, upon the completion of their construction and renovation. This was revealed by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, during an inter-ministerial press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.

Umahi emphasized that the tolling system is intended to help maintain the roads and generate revenue for further infrastructure development. He stated that the move will be implemented on several key highways once the ongoing renovations are completed.
The reintroduction of toll gates, according to the minister, is part of the government’s broader strategy to ensure the sustainability of the country’s road network and improve transportation infrastructure across Nigeria.
