Oyo State lawmaker, Hon. Bisi Oluranti, has emphasized the crucial role women can play in shaping the future of Nigeria through active participation in politics and governance.

Representing Ogbomoso North State constituency, Oluranti stressed that women’s involvement in politics is not only a matter of equality but a necessity for balanced and effective governance.
According to her, women bring unique perspectives, compassion, and inclusiveness to leadership, ensuring that the needs and interests of all members of society, especially women and children, are adequately represented in policy decisions. She noted that encouraging more women to participate in politics will strengthen democracy and promote national development.

*Breaking Down Barriers*

Oluranti identified training and reserving seats for women as crucial steps towards bridging the gender gap in political representation. She commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his inclusivity, particularly for ensuring that women are part of the 10th assembly. The lawmaker highlighted her own productive experience in the House of Assembly, where she has positively impacted her constituency through various projects and programs.
*The Need for Change*
Oluranti emphasized that women’s participation in politics is essential for Nigeria’s development, stating that a nation ruled by people with similar mindsets for an extended period will inevitably face problems and slow development. She noted that women’s involvement in lawmaking will bring about drastic changes, as they understand the needs of the people.

*Call to Action*
The lawmaker urged Nigerian women to increase their political participation ahead of the 2027 general elections. She called on the government to encourage women to aspire to elective positions and reduce nomination form fees for them. Oluranti also advocated for specific positions to be reserved for women in politics, in line with the 35% affirmative action for women in politics.
By promoting women’s participation in politics, Oluranti believes that Nigeria can accelerate a socio-cultural shift towards positive democratic values that empower women. This, she said, will lead to more effective governance and development.
