The Executive Chairman of Oluyole local government, Akeem Olatunji, yesterday convened a Security Council meeting with heads of security agencies in the council in a bid to evaluate prevailing challenges and chart a new course.
The meeting, which held in his office at the local government Secretariat, Idi-Ayunre, also saw the unveiling of some strategic security measures to address issues bothering on kidnapping, car hijacking, and armed robbery among others.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, Olatunji, flanked by key security stakeholders including representatives from the police force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, and Local Vigilante Groups, addressed the pressing security concerns facing Oluyole residents.
He emphasized the urgent need for coordinated action to restore peace and safeguard lives and properties of all residents in the Council area as the bedrock of any meaning development.
He stated that part of the resolutions of the council was to constitute a joint security taskforce to heighten steady patrol along Adi-Ayunre axis and also along Oyo-Ogun border area where there is much security concerns.
He disclosed that several innovative security measures would be unveiled including plans to enhance community policing initiatives, intensify patrols in high-risk areas, and implement a neighborhood watch program to trickle down greater vigilance among residents at the grassroots.
Furthermore, Olatunji said it was resolved at the council meeting to formally write the NSCDC with a view to leverage on the agency’s expertise and specialized personnel in forest rangers in the planned special taskforce operation in to flush out criminal elements hibernating in the forests along border area along Ibadan-Ijebu Ode road as part of the comprehensive security roadmap.
The council boss noted that measures have also being put in place to address the issue of criminal elements who are in the act of disguising as scavengers to gain access to private residences to perpetrate crime, calling on residents to be more vigilant in their neighborhoods and communities.
Olatunji emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the community, stressing that collective efforts were essential in achieving sustainable peace and security. He also assured residents of the council’s commitment to ensuring their safety and urged them to remain vigilant and cooperative in the fight against crime.
He added that it was resolved at the council meeting that regular reviews and feedback mechanisms would be established to assess the effectiveness of the security measures and make necessary adjustments where needed.
He commended security operatives in the local government for their effectiveness and proactive steps in the fight against crime which according to him has led to the arrest of three notorious criminals specialized in car hijacking.
