A sociopolitical Group based in Ibadan, The Reformers’ Club, has lauded the lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East, Rep. Abass Adigun (Agboworin) for the Bill on creation of Ibadan State with 32 local government areas, which he sponsored.

The Group, in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Alhaji Usman Aderibigbe, over the weekend, lauded the move by the lawmaker, describing it as a collective cause that must be given adequate support from well-meaning individuals as well as stakeholders in Ibadan.
Aderibigbe equally commended Agboworin for taking the bold move to sponsor such Bill that has the potential to address the long-standing demands for justice, recognition, development, and identity that have been denied to the people of Ibadan for far too long.

While saying that Rep. Agboworin’s intentions are genuine and in line with the aspirations of the people, the Group called on all well-meaning individuals in Ibadan to support the initiative and join the struggle for the creation of Ibadan State.

According to the Group, the creation of Ibadan State would provide more political offices, direct access to federal allocations, and the power to make decisions locally.
Adding, “this could lead to more tailored development, improved infrastructure, healthcare, and education. It would also give the people of Ibadan a stronger voice in Nigeria and allow them to showcase their culture, traditions, and values.”
“We urge all stakeholders to support this initiative and work towards making it a reality. Unity among Ibadan people is crucial, and different communities must put aside their differences and agree on boundaries, political representation, and leadership of the new state.

“The legislative and constitutional process would require the bill to pass through multiple readings, public hearings, and Senate and House agreement, followed by presidential assent.
“It is imperative that this movement remains a collective cause, not reduced to partisan or egoistic quests. We believe that Agboworin’s intentions are genuine and in line with the aspirations of the people.
“We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to support this initiative and join the struggle for justice, equality, and development,” the statement read.
