The lawmaker representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency, Rep. Abass Adigun (Agboworin), on Friday, received the Best Representative of the Year 2025 prestigious award from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.
Agboworin, who was represented by the Chairman of Ibadan South West local government area, Hon. Kehinde Akande, received the award at the grand finale of the NUJ 2025 Press Week, tagged Pen Night, held in Iyaganku, Ibadan.
The political functionaries of the state government who accompanied the lawmaker’s representative include the Chairman of Ibadan South LCDA, Hon. Teslim Ogundeji; Secretary, Ibadan South-East LG, Hon. Kazeem Kareem; Board Member representing Oyo South Pacesetter Transport Service, Hon. Ismail Akinsola; Mogaji Ibrahim Olasupo; Hon. Saheed Adepoju and a host of others.
In his acceptance speech, he expressed his gratitude to the NUJ for the recognition, saying, “I am deeply humbled and honored to stand before you today, accepting this prestigious award as the Best Representative of the Year 2025 in Oyo State.”
The lawmaker dedicated the award to the leaders and stakeholders in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), his team, constituents, and the people of Oyo State, as well as those who believe in the power of service and giving back to the community.
“This award is a reflection of the collective efforts of our leaders and stakeholders in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), my team, my constituents, and the people of Oyo State, who have supported me on this journey,” he said.
Agboworin praised the role of journalists in holding elected officials accountable, saying, “To the journalists in the Press, I say thank you for your role in holding us accountable and for being the watchdog of our democracy. Your work is crucial, and I salute your commitment to truth and justice.”
As a gesture of appreciation, Agboworin donated N1 million to support the NUJ’s activities.
“I thank you for believing in me and for allowing me to serve them. This award motivates me to continue serving with dedication, integrity, and utmost passion,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Agboworin reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of his constituency and Oyo State.
“I accept this award with humility and dedicate it to all the members of the House of Representatives from our dear Pacesetter State, to the youth of Oyo State, and to all those who believe in the power of service and the importance of giving back to our community,” he added.
The award presentation ceremony was attended by dignitaries, lawmakers, and representatives of various organizations.
