Abia State Takes Bold Step: Cancels Pension for Former Governors & Deputy Governors
Abia State takes a significant step in reducing the cost of governance with the passing of a bill to revoke pensions and entitlements of former governors and deputy governors by the State Assembly.
Notable former governors, including Okezie Ikpeazu, T.A. Orji, and Orji Uzor Kalu, will no longer receive these benefits if the bill gains the approval of Governor Alex Otti.
The news was shared by Uchenna Okoro, the House Member for Arochukwu State Constituency, following Tuesday’s plenary session.
Sponsored by the same member, the bill, ‘H.A.B 11: A Repeal of the Abia State Governors & Deputy Governors Pensions Law No 4 of 2001 and Related Matters,’ aims to curb excessive spending on retired state officials. The successful passage of the bill aligns with Governor Otti’s agenda to streamline governance expenses in Abia State.
