The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, has announced that the Land Use Charge (LUC) taskforce will begin enforcement on Commercial, Educational, Health, Industrial, and Residential properties in the State. This is in accordance with the 2024 Land Use Charge law and the recently signed rule of law by the current administration.
During an interview in his office in Ibadan on Wednesday, the Hon. Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Mr. Williams A. Funmilayo, stated that the government will take action against property owners who have failed to pay their Land Use Charge. The LUC taskforce will commence enforcement starting from 10th June 2024, and properties of defaulters will be sealed. This enforcement is in line with the provisions of the LUC 2024 law.
Mr. A. Funmilayo Williams explained that the distribution of LUC bills aims to generate revenue to help the government provide amenities that will improve the lives of individuals and enable businesses to thrive. Additionally, a certain percentage of the revenue generated will be allocated to local governments within the State, bringing development closer to the grassroots. He emphasized that LUC is not intended to exploit individuals and businesses but is part of citizens’ civic responsibilities.
The Commissioner confirmed that the government has given ratepayers ample time to settle their bills, with most bills delivered since February 2024. Despite reminders and notices of default, many property owners have failed to fulfill their civic responsibilities. He therefore urged property owners to pay their LUC bills and cooperate with the taskforce as it carries out its duties.
*”I will personally lead the enforcement team to some properties to persuade them to pay,” said Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams. “The focus of this drive is not to close down or ground any business but to encourage businesses to assist the government in creating a better business environment for them to thrive.”*
Payment of Land Use Charge is easy and convenient. Property owners can make payments online via [https://pay.lands.oyostate.gov.ng] using the payment code on their bills. Payments can also be made with the payment code at any bank and on Xpresspay platforms nationwide, or by visiting Room 4 at the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Urban Development with a debit card for POS machine payments.
It is important to note that LUC has no accredited agents; therefore, payments should only be made through the stipulated channels indicated on the back of the bill issued. No form of payment should be made to any member of the enforcement team.
For added convenience, you can download the OYPRS app from the App Store or Play Store to obtain your PIN and make seamless payments.
