FLASHBACK: How Engr. Dotun Sanusi (ILAJI) Saved an Amotekun Operative From an Untimely Death
On Friday, 5th of February 2021, Ona-Ara Local Government Amotekun operatives were seriously attacked at the Odeyale-Amuloko Junction, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Reports indicate that a large number of youths from the Odeyale area ambushed the operatives en route to the council secretariat in Akanran, where their office was located at the time.
The day before the incident, on 4th February 2021, unrest in the Odeyale area led to the community leaders calling upon Amotekun operatives to restore peace. The Ona-Ara Amotekun operatives attempted to settle the situation and remained in the area until midnight, under the impression that the matter had been resolved. Unbeknownst to them, some individuals harbored resentment, which culminated in the following day’s attack, leaving several Amotekun operatives severely injured.
During the assault, three Amotekun operatives were injured, but one, named ABIOLA IBRAHIM, sustained serious back injuries from axes and machetes. He was promptly rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for urgent care. Chief (Engr.) Jubril Dotun Sanusi, also known as Ilaji, the Jagunmolu of Ibadanland, swiftly intervened, providing the necessary funds for Ibrahim’s hospital bills at UCH.
This timely intervention by Chief (Engr.) Jubril Dotun Sanusi was crucial in saving the life of the injured operative before further assistance from the government and relatives was organized.
ABIOLA IBRAHIM, THE VICTIM
Investigations by Egalitarian Voice Media during and after the incident revealed that Abiola Ibrahim, who was merely an operative at the time, has since become the OPERATION LEADER of the Corps in the Ona-Ara local government. This turn of events underscores the adage, “It’s only through long life that one can overcome suffering.” If Abiola Ibrahim had succumbed to his injuries or failed to recover, his current leadership position would have been unattainable.
Upon reaching out, Ibrahim expressed deep gratitude towards Chief (Engr.) Dotun Sanusi for his life-saving intervention during that critical time.
“If not for God and the timely intervention of our father, Baba Ilaji, I could have been a memory or unable to serve again as a security officer due to the severity of my injuries. It is my prayer that God Almighty will continue to bless him,” Ibrahim said.
