The Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board (OYSHMB), Hon. Adekunle Bankole, on Friday conducted an unscheduled working visit to selected general hospitals across the Ogbomoso zone of the state as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure strict compliance with government directives.
The inspection tour covered the General Hospital, Ikoyi-Ile, in Oriire Local Government Area; General Hospital, Iresa-Adu, in Surulere Local Government Area; and General Hospital, Sunsun, in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area.
The visit was aimed at assessing the facilities’ emergency preparedness, working conditions, staff strength and attendance, as well as identifying challenges affecting effective healthcare service delivery.
During the inspection, Hon. Bankole assessed the state of infrastructure, availability of medical equipment, staffing levels, drug supplies and the general working conditions of the hospitals.

He explained that the exercise aligns with the vision of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to strengthen secondary healthcare services and ensure that residents have access to quality, affordable and accessible healthcare.
Addressing members of staff, the OYSHMB chairman reiterated Governor Makinde’s commitment to improving the state’s healthcare system, stressing that the governor’s dedication and leadership must be reflected at every level of service delivery.
He warned that negligence, lateness and absenteeism would not be tolerated, insisting that all healthcare personnel must remain accountable and committed to their responsibilities.
The chairman disclosed that observations from the inspection would inform immediate interventions and long-term government plans, including hospital renovations, procurement of medical equipment and manpower development.
He urged health workers to demonstrate professionalism, dedication, vigilance, compassion and responsiveness in carrying out their duties, noting that quality service delivery and prompt attention to patients, particularly during emergencies, remain essential to an effective public healthcare system.
As part of the engagement, Hon. Bankole also interacted with community leaders, highlighting their responsibilities in supporting the effective management, sustainability and development of the hospitals within their communities.
He further inspected ongoing projects, hospital wards, laboratories, pharmacies and administrative blocks, directing that all identified challenges and infrastructural gaps be properly documented for necessary action.
While appreciating staff members who have continued to demonstrate commitment and resilience despite prevailing challenges, the chairman assured them of the government’s continued commitment to improving workers’ welfare and strengthening the state’s healthcare sector.
Staff members at the visited facilities expressed excitement over the unscheduled inspection, commending Hon. Bankole for what they described as a morale-boosting exercise and a demonstration of responsive leadership.
They also appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for his administration’s continued support for the health sector and pledged to improve their commitment to effective service delivery.
It would be recalled that the OYSHMB chairman had earlier embarked on similar inspection visits to several hospitals in Ibadan and other parts of the state to monitor compliance with government directives on healthcare delivery, sanitation and patient care.
According to the board, the ongoing inspection exercise will extend to all secondary healthcare facilities across the five geopolitical zones of Oyo State.
