ISEYIN, OYO STATE — Former member of the House of Representatives and founder of the Pellercare Foundation, Hon. Shina Peller, has called on political leaders and public figures to prioritize the health and welfare of citizens before seeking their votes.
Peller made the call on Friday during the flag-off of the Pellercare 360 Community Impact Tour at Aseyin Ojude Oba Market Square in Iseyin, Oyo State.
The initiative, launched under the theme “Alaafia De Ile Wa,” provided free medical consultations, diagnostic screenings, treatments and medications to residents of Iseyin and neighbouring communities.
Speaking at the event, Peller stressed that leadership should be rooted in genuine concern for people’s well-being rather than electoral ambitions.

“Before we ask for their votes, we must ask and care about their health,” he said, emphasizing that access to quality healthcare should not be determined by an individual’s financial circumstances.
He expressed delight at the turnout, noting that the opportunity to provide medical services to mothers, elderly residents, children and other community members reflected the humanitarian objectives of the initiative.
According to him, the Pellercare 360 Community Impact Tour is designed to promote a healthier and stronger Oyo North, with plans to extend its reach across all 13 local government areas in the senatorial district.
The full-day medical outreach featured four dedicated service areas: the Women’s Health Pavilion, Men’s Health Corner, Elders Honour Clinic and Child Health Festival.
Beneficiaries received medical examinations, professional consultations, diagnostic screenings and minor medical procedures, while prescribed medications were provided free of charge. Organisers also arranged referrals for patients requiring further medical attention.
Medical Team Provides Specialised Services
The Central and Coordinating Doctor for Pellercare 360, Dr. Williams Edet, commended the organisation of the programme and the turnout of residents.
Edet explained that a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and pharmacists deployed diagnostic equipment to assess and attend to patients with various medical needs.
Services included hypertension and diabetes screenings, cardiovascular assessments, maternal health consultations, fertility-related evaluations and breast examinations.
The medical team also provided specialised consultations for elderly beneficiaries, alongside paediatric interventions and deworming services for children.
Edet added that patients requiring continued treatment were directed through appropriate referral channels to support further medical management.
Beneficiaries Commend Free Medical Services
The intervention received commendations from beneficiaries who described the free services as timely relief from the financial challenges associated with accessing healthcare.
Pa Rasheed Adewole, a 72-year-old beneficiary at the Elders Honour Clinic, said the cost of regular hospital visits and prescribed medications had become a significant burden.
He expressed gratitude to the medical team for checking his vital signs, attending to his health needs and providing his medications without charge.
Similarly, Mrs. Adijat Salim, a 38-year-old resident who accessed services at the Women’s Health Pavilion, praised the medical personnel for their patience and thoroughness during her breast examination and maternal health counselling.
She noted that receiving professional medical attention without payment had eased some of the financial pressure on her household.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Taiwo Ogundele, a 45-year-old trader, said the screening revealed that his blood pressure was dangerously high.
According to him, the medical team provided immediate attention, medication and dietary guidance after identifying the condition, an intervention he believes helped avert a potentially serious health emergency.
At the Child Health Festival, Mrs. Comfort Adewale, a 29-year-old mother of two, praised the friendly environment and the attention given to children by the medical personnel.
She thanked Peller for bringing essential healthcare services directly to the community, making it easier for families to access medical attention without the additional expense of travelling to healthcare facilities.
Tour Moves to Ogbomoso
Following the Iseyin flag-off, the Pellercare 360 Community Impact Tour is scheduled to move to Ogbomoso Town Hall in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area for another full-day medical outreach.
Organisers said the programme forms part of Peller’s long-term healthcare agenda aimed at expanding access to medical services at the grassroots across Oyo North Senatorial District.
The initiative seeks to address barriers to healthcare access by taking medical professionals and essential services directly to communities, particularly residents who may struggle to afford routine consultations, screenings and medications.
Through the Pellercare 360 Community Impact Tour, the foundation aims to sustain community-based health interventions and promote the principle that improved public welfare and sustainable community development are closely linked to the health of the people.
