Residents of Ibadan have reacted to the recent statement credited to Mogaji Abass Oloko on APC and its candidates.
“Ibadan youths also questioned the standing of Mogaji Abass Oloko, whom many have described as crumb eaters, a term they used to suggest he survives on political leftovers rather than having a strong base.
They observed that since he became Mogaji, no Olubadan has found him worthy of promotion to the Jagun line, a situation they contrast with many who became Mogaji after him but have already been elevated through the traditional chieftaincy ladder.
According to the residents, this lack of progression raises questions about trust and confidence from the high chiefs and the traditional institution, and they argued that such a record does not present a good example for younger ones aspiring to leadership.”

“Residents also noted that Abass Oloko has a pattern of changing his position once he sees crumbs or personal benefits.
According to them, he says one thing today and says otherwise tomorrow when it suits his interest, a conduct they believe undermines consistency and principle in both politics and traditional leadership.
They argued that such inconsistency makes it difficult to hold him up as a model for what a true Ibadan man represents, noting that Ibadan values integrity, honour, and standing by one’s word.
The residents maintained that younger generation needs role models who embody those core Ibadan virtues, rather than those who shift positions for immediate gain.”
Mr. Sanusi Tirimisiyu from Isale Afa area said political office should not be seen as an avenue for amassing wealth, noting that a good name is more important and valuable than wealth.
On his part, Mr. Taiwo Dada from Beyerunka said the mindset that holding political office is about wealth accumulation should be discouraged among young people. He added that Governor Seyi Makinde has done well by ensuring prudency and blocking loopholes in governance.
Also speaking, Mr. Ishola Kamali from Ode Aje area said leaders should focus on service delivery and integrity, which are values that endure beyond office.
“This reflects a mindset that sees public office as a means of amassing wealth, forgetting that a good name is more important and more valuable than wealth. Governor Seyi Makinde has done well by ensuring prudence and blocking loopholes in public finance. What our young people need are examples that show integrity and service beyond personal gain, and a traditional system that rewards trust and proven character.”
