The political landscape of Akinyele Local Government witnessed another significant development today as the Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye, received another wave of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The defection further adds to the series of political realignments taking place across the local government ahead of the forthcoming general elections. The latest entrants arrived with their supporters and political associates, declaring their support for the APM and participate actively in the party’s political activities.
Among the major highlights of the event was the defection of Hon. Oyebode Akinsoji Joshua (SOJ), a former Councillor representing Ward 3 on the platform of the APC, who joined the APM alongside members of his political team. The development attracted attention within the local political space, particularly because of his previous experience in grassroots politics and representation. His movement, together with that of other APC members who accompanied him, represents another notable realignment of political forces in Akinyele Local Government as different stakeholders continue to make decisions about their political affiliations ahead of the elections.
Speaking on the reasons behind their decision, the decampees acknowledged what they described as the developmental efforts of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as well as the Illustrious work of the Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye. They stated that their decision was influenced by their assessment of the administration’s direction and their desire to contribute to the political process from the APM platform. The new members also expressed their readiness to mobilise their supporters and work with other party stakeholders toward the success of APM candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

Receiving the new members, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye welcomed them into the APM and reiterated his commitment to expanding the party’s political structure across Akinyele Local Government. The Executive Chairman, who has recently received defectors from the APC and Accord Party, emphasised that the APM remains open to individuals and groups willing to contribute to its political organisation. He charged the new members and existing party faithful to work together, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and maintain unity as the party prepares for the forthcoming elections, while calling on all supporters to put collective effort behind the success of APM candidates across the local government.
