Stakeholders across the Ibadan North-East and South-East Federal Constituency have commended the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin, for another intervention aimed at improving learning conditions in schools across the constituency.
The commendation followed the distribution of educational materials comprising 500 chairs, 10,600 notebooks and 900 textbooks, facilitated by Agboworin in collaboration with the National Productivity Centre (NPC).
The intervention took place on Monday at the Old Barracks, Kajola-Irede Street, Oju-Irora Hospital Academy, Ibadan, with the aim of supporting teaching and learning and reducing some of the material challenges confronting pupils, students, teachers and schools.
Under the distribution arrangement, schools in Ibadan South-East received 250 chairs, 5,200 notebooks and 450 textbooks, while schools in Ibadan North-East received 250 chairs, 5,400 notebooks and 450 textbooks.
The textbooks are primarily intended for school libraries, while the notebooks and chairs are expected to support classroom activities.
Speaking at the event, Agboworin said the intervention was part of his efforts to complement existing government initiatives in the education sector and provide practical support to families within his constituency.
He explained that the schools covered in the current phase were not the only beneficiaries, noting that more than 40 schools across the two local government areas were being targeted.
According to him, subsequent phases would extend the intervention to other schools.
“The schools picked today were not selected because they are the best. We have over 40 schools in the two local governments, and everybody will be given the opportunity to benefit.”
Agboworin also clarified that the textbooks were meant for school libraries and were not intended for sale.
The lawmaker said his personal experience as a student, particularly the difficulty he encountered in accessing textbooks and exercise books, influenced his decision to make educational support a recurring part of his constituency interventions.
“I used to be a student in this constituency. I used to be one of those who did not have enough textbooks. I did not have money to buy textbooks or exercise books. So, if I am in a position of authority to do this, why not?”
The lawmaker further disclosed that he had sustained an after-school tutorial programme for students in Ibadan North-East and South-East, with teachers engaged and paid to provide additional lessons for students throughout the year.
Beyond education, Agboworin said his constituency interventions had also covered healthcare and infrastructure, including medical outreaches addressing common health conditions as well as projects involving roads, streetlights and solar lighting.
He said his decision to return from the United States to Nigeria and participate actively in politics was driven by his desire to contribute to the development of his community.
Ige Commends Agboworin
The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, commended Agboworin for maintaining contact with his constituents and supporting educational development.
Ige described the intervention as another demonstration of the importance of maintaining a strong connection between elected representatives and the communities they serve.
He urged the beneficiary schools to ensure that the materials were properly maintained and used for their intended purposes.
“We have never had it so good like this in this constituency. We thank the Governor for giving us Agboworin. I am happy he has not disappointed us.”
Ige added that the lawmaker had remained accessible to constituents and continued to engage with people at the grassroots.
He also encouraged Agboworin to sustain interventions across the different wards and communities within the constituency.
NPC Commends Quality of Materials
Representing the Director-General of the National Productivity Centre at the programme, Mr. Aluko Ayodeji commended the quality of the materials provided for the schools after inspecting the books, chairs and other items.
He described the quality of the materials as satisfactory and urged the beneficiary schools to maintain them properly.
According to him, responsible utilisation of the materials would encourage further interventions aimed at improving the learning environment.
The National Productivity Centre is a federal government parastatal with a mandate that includes promoting productivity consciousness and productivity-related programmes across Nigeria.
Teachers, Education Officials Applaud Intervention
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ibadan North-East chapter, Comrade Oladejo Sunday, represented by Comrade Fadiji Oluseyi, appreciated the intervention and called for continued collaboration among policymakers, education administrators and teachers.
He also drew attention to the need for further rehabilitation of school infrastructure within the constituency.
Similarly, the Chairman of the NUT in Ibadan South-East, Comrade Taofeek Adediran, represented by Comrade Yetunde Oguntola, appreciated the educational support and urged the beneficiary schools to put the materials to effective use.
The Educational Secretary for Ibadan South-East, Olumide James, and his Ibadan North-East counterpart, Hon. George Akintunde, were also present at the event.
The Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan North-East, Alhaji Isiaka Fatokun, popularly known as Abuye, also commended the intervention and urged the beneficiary schools to take proper care of the materials.
Other dignitaries at the programme included Hon. Abiodun Adedoja Ekolo, Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Energy, and Hon. Akinleye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Development.
Stakeholders at the event underscored the importance of sustained investment in educational facilities, learning materials and programmes capable of improving the conditions under which pupils and students learn.

Among the schools listed as beneficiaries in Ibadan South-East are Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Ibadan City Grammar School, Eleta High School, Ibadan Grammar School, Anglican School, Molete, St. Luke School, Molete, Community Grammar School, Kudeti, IMG Alake, Bolawal Nursery and Primary School, Green Valley Nursery and Primary School, and Four Square Nursery and Primary School.
In Ibadan North-East, the listed beneficiary schools include Loyola College, HLA Agodi, Bashorun High School, Oluyoro Girls High School, St. Cyprian Primary School, Lagelu Grammar School, St. John Secondary School and Olubadan High School.
The latest intervention adds to other education-related initiatives previously attributed to Agboworin, including tutorial programmes, student support and school infrastructure projects across the constituency.
With the distribution of 500 chairs, 10,600 notebooks and 900 textbooks, the latest intervention places further emphasis on the provision of basic learning materials and improved classroom conditions for schools across the Ibadan North-East and South-East Federal Constituency.
