IBADAN — A former Personal Assistant to the erstwhile Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Ajiboye Akande Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, has explained his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) and join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Sangogade said his decision was based on his personal political convictions and his assessment of the political direction of Oyo State, stressing that his realignment was not connected to any disagreement with his former principal.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan at the weekend, Sangogade said his decision to identify with the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde and the APM governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, was informed
his desire to promote greater participation of young people in politics.
His declaration came against the backdrop of the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, where he formally led hundreds of youths, traders, artisans and other supporters from the APC into the APM ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Explaining his decision, Sangogade said he had reached a point where he could no longer remain on the sidelines of the political process, particularly as the 2027 elections approach.
“I was a former Personal Assistant (PA) to Chief Adebayo Adelabu. I am not in any way in crisis with anyone. I’m mature enough to make a decision,” he said.
He further clarified that his political movement should not be interpreted as a fallout with Adelabu, maintaining that his decision was independently taken.
“The decision I made has nothing to do with my former boss, Chief Adelabu; it was a decision I took independently,” he added.
Sangogade said his political realignment followed his assessment of developments in the state and his decision to identify with the APM and its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the APM provides a platform through which young people can become more actively involved in politics and contribute to discussions about governance and the future of the state.
The former Adelabu aide also declared his support for APM governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, calling on his supporters across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State to rally behind the candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
He urged members of his political structure and other young people to participate actively in the political process, stressing that the outcome of the 2027 elections would have implications for youth empowerment, welfare and development.
Sangogade maintained that the movement was not merely about changing political parties but about building an organised platform where young people could have a stronger voice in determining the leadership and direction of the state.
He also said the large turnout at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement concert reflected the level of mobilisation around the movement in Oyo State.
The event, themed “Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU),” attracted youths and other supporters and formally marked the reception of Sangogade and his supporters into the APM.
