In one of the series of thought-provoking discussions we have had with Hon. Prince Akeem Adeyemi, there was a day we asked him how he had been able to secure approval for most of the road projects he facilitated, knowing full well that the construction of roads is not directly within the purview of a member of the House of Representatives. He gave us a vivid narration of how he secured approval for the construction of the Ori Awo Road project, with a spur to the Abolongo Correctional Centre :
On a fateful day, I was at the Villa for one of my many visits when I met them drawing up a list of roads to be constructed. I made a case for the construction of the Saabo/School of Science/Oke-Medina and Abolongo Phase I and Phase II road projects. Considering the length of these roads, I was asked to give a single compelling reason why they needed to be constructed.
I told them that these roads were essential to the operations of the Federal Government Custodial Centre at Abolongo. I explained that the prison break that occurred on October 22, 2022, was largely successful because the security formations mobilised to curtail the activities of the miscreants who set the terrorists free were severely hampered by the deplorable and almost impassable condition of the road leading to the custodial centre.
My request for the construction of the listed roads was immediately approved.
The lesson for constituents in Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West is instructive. We will try as much as possible to present it in the simplest way.

There are a total of 360 members of the House of Representatives. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu knows only a fraction of these members personally. Likewise, only a few members of the House of Representatives have regular access to the Presidential Villa at any given time. For many of the 360 members, the occasions on which they get to see the President may be limited to budget presentations and other major official engagements. Even when they do see him, there is no guarantee that the President would recognise each of them personally.
So, how do we expect every member to have the opportunity to personally make requests for road construction projects?
The truth is that Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, through your support, has attained a position of prominence that gives him access to opportunities that can be leveraged for the benefit of his constituents. There is abundant evidence that he has used the opportunity bestowed upon him as your representative in the House of Representatives to attract meaningful development to Oyo and Afijio.
Today, he is billed to flag off the construction and tarring of the Abolupe–Onto–Ajalaruru–Agberinde roads. This is coming at a time when Atiba Local Government, which is the major beneficiary of the project, is yet to construct an inch of road since 2019.
This is the kind of representation and leadership we need.
It is also why we are clamouring for the people of Oyo to continue to support a performer like no other, rather than replacing proven experience with a greenhorn who would have to start all over again from the abyss.
The choice before us is clear: continuity, experience and results.
