Oyo Town, Oyo State – The Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Health has expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded on the ongoing construction, rehabilitation, and renovation of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annex in Oyo Town following an oversight inspection of the project site.
The assessment visit was led by the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Saminu Riliwan Gbadamosi (Wale Canada), and accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Oluwaseun Abiodun Babalola, alongside committee members including Hon. Samson Babalola, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, Hon. Akintunde Emmanuel Olajide, Hon. Babajide Gabriel Adebayo, Hon. Razaq Mabaje, Hon. Abideen Ogundare, Hon. Oladeji Oparinde, and Hon. Olorunpoto Cephas Rahman.
During the inspection, members of the committee were conducted round various sections of the facility by the project consultant and other relevant stakeholders. The lawmakers carefully assessed the quality, pace, and scope of work being undertaken on the project, which is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery, medical education, and research within Oyo Town and surrounding communities upon completion.
Speaking during the visit, members of the committee commended the consultant and project team for the appreciable level of progress achieved so far. They noted that the ongoing transformation of the facility reflects the commitment of the Oyo State Government to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical services across the state.

The lawmakers, however, identified certain areas requiring further attention and improvement to ensure that the project ultimately meets the standards expected of a modern teaching hospital. They emphasized the need for strict adherence to quality specifications and timely execution in line with contractual obligations.
The committee reiterated the Oyo State House of Assembly’s commitment to effective legislative oversight of government-funded projects and stressed the importance of delivering durable and functional healthcare facilities capable of meeting the growing needs of the population.
Members also assured the contractor and project consultant of the Assembly’s continued support through appropriate legislative interventions and advocacy aimed at ensuring adequate funding and smooth implementation of the project within the stipulated timeframe.
The LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Oyo Annex is widely regarded as a strategic healthcare project for the ancient town of Oyo. Having suffered years of neglect and underdevelopment, the facility is currently undergoing comprehensive reconstruction and rehabilitation as part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s broader agenda to reposition the healthcare sector and improve service delivery across Oyo State.
The committee further acknowledged Governor Makinde’s visionary leadership and commitment to healthcare development, particularly his directive to the newly inaugurated Governing Board of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital to prioritize the restoration and full operationalization of the Oyo Annex.
At the conclusion of the inspection, the lawmakers expressed optimism that the renewed commitment of the State Government, combined with sustained legislative oversight and stakeholder collaboration, would ensure the timely completion of the project and its transformation into a world-class healthcare institution capable of delivering quality medical services, training healthcare professionals, and supporting advanced medical research for the benefit of Oyo State and beyond.
