The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, FCA, Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland has congratulated Muslims across Oyo State and Nigeria on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448AH, urging them to embrace the values of faith, sacrifice, perseverance and trust in Almighty Allah.
Adegoke, in a goodwill message released to commemorate the Islamic New Year, described the Hijrah as a profound reminder of the courage and steadfastness demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions in the face of adversity.
According to him, the occasion provides an opportunity for Muslims and all citizens to reflect on the lessons of patience, hope and unwavering commitment to righteousness while praying for the peace, unity and prosperity of Oyo State and Nigeria.
“As we welcome 1st Muharram 1448AH, may Allah grant our land peace, prosperity, unity and abundant blessings. The Hijrah reminds us of faith, sacrifice, perseverance, hope and trust in Almighty Allah,” Adegoke stated.
The ADC governorship hopeful further called on Muslims to continue offering fervent prayers for peace and security across the state, noting that collective supplication remains essential for overcoming prevailing challenges and ensuring sustainable development.
He also prayed for divine guidance for leaders at all levels and sought Allah’s mercy upon families facing various difficulties.
“May Allah comfort every affected family, guide our leaders aright, and make this new year a season of divine favour, safety and unprecedented development for our people,” he added.
Adegoke expressed optimism that the new Islamic year would usher in greater progress, stability and economic prosperity for Oyo State, while encouraging citizens to remain united irrespective of religious, ethnic or political differences.
The Ibadan chief, however, used the occasion to draw attention to the painful plight of the teachers and pupils abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, lamenting that the victims have remained in captivity for about 30 days without regaining their freedom.
He urged Muslims and all well-meaning Nigerians to remember the abducted children, their teachers and their distressed families in prayers during the Hijrah season.
“As we celebrate this new Islamic year, let us not forget our children and teachers who have remained in captivity for about 30 days. We pray that Almighty Allah grants them protection, strengthens their families, softens the hearts of their captors and ensures their safe and immediate return. May Allah restore joy to every affected home and grant lasting peace and security to Oyo State and Nigeria,” Adegoke prayed.
He concluded by wishing the Muslim Ummah a peaceful, rewarding and spiritually fulfilling Hijrah 1448AH celebration.
