Oyo LG polls: OYSIEC seeks collaboration with security agencies for peaceful election.
– We will mobilize over 2500 officers to secure the process – Oyo NSCDC commandant
## The chairman of the Oyo state Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare Isiaka Olagunju SAN has called for the collaboration and support of security agencies in the state to ensure a peaceful local government elections come 27th of April 2024.
Aare Olagunju who made the call during a courtesy visit to the Oyo state command headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ibadan, explained that security is an essential ingredient for a peaceful and credible election, hence the need to seek the support of the NSCDC and other security agencies in the state.
The chairman of the state electoral commission also emphasized that if the people have confidence in the electoral body and security agencies, it would largely help to reduce voters’ apathy amongst the residents.
Stressing that OYSIEC alone could not work in isolation to ensure a successful poll, Aare Olagunju
affirmed that political parties and their candidates, security agencies and other stakeholders equally have essential roles to play, while commending NSCDC for its roles in the success of the first local government elections under the current administration.
He also tasked NSCDC that apart from protecting facilities and electoral officials before, during and after the election, any act of electoral malpractices should be arrested accordingly.
Responding, state commandant of the NSCDC, commandant Augustine Ayodeji Padonu said the command has received security briefs ahead of the election and would work massively to ensure the success of the election.
He also acknowledged that over 2500 officers of the command would be mobilized to protect facilities, electoral officials as well as election materials.
