I have watched political parties exchange press releases trading blames and scoring points over insecurity while innocent schoolchildren and their teachers remain in the hands of bandits somewhere in the forest in Oyo State.

At a time like this, politics should be silent and humanity should speak. This is not the moment for party loyalty, propaganda or political calculations. This is the moment for empathy, unity and urgent action.

How did we get to a point where a handful of armed criminals can hold an entire nation hostage? How did we become so accustomed to tragedy that the suffering of children can become another talking point in political debates?

The truth is painful: our country has failed us. Those entrusted with our safety have not done enough. Every Nigerian, regardless of political affiliation, should be outraged. Because today it is those children and their teachers; tomorrow, it could be any of us.

We are no longer talking about isolated incidents. We are talking about a nation where fear has become a daily companion and where citizens increasingly feel abandoned.

This is not the time to keep quiet because of party affiliation. It is not the time to defend incompetence because it wears our preferred political colours. Human lives are at stake.

The cries of frightened children in captivity should matter more than political victories. Their safe return should be the only agenda.

And enough of the visits, inspections, sympathy tours and photo opportunities. With all due respect, these visits have not brought our children home. Nigerians are tired of promises, tired of statements and tired of ceremonies that produce no tangible results.

Our leaders must rise to the occasion. We want decisive action, We want results. We want a country where parents can send their children to school without fear and where criminals no longer dictate the fate of innocent citizens.

The fight against banditry cannot remain a recurring headline. It must become a national emergency that is confronted with urgency, determination, and the full weight of the state. We owe these children, their families and every Nigerian that much.

Enough of the blame games. Enough of the politics. Enough of the visits.

Bring our children and their teachers home. End banditry. Restore our faith in leadership. Nigeria deserves better.
