The Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government Area, Hon. Kehinde Akande, has felicitated Muslim residents on the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, expressing optimism that the council area is steadily progressing toward greater development.

In his Sallah message released on Wednesday, Akande called on residents to reflect on the values of sacrifice, obedience, and communal unity that define the festival. He urged citizens to use the occasion to strengthen bonds of neighbourliness and support one another, regardless of religious or political differences.

“The Ibadan South West Local Government Area is on the path of greatness,” Akande said. “We are building on the pathway laid by Governor Seyi Makinde in Oyo State and working to ensure that every ward feels the impact of governance through improved infrastructure, sanitation, education, and youth engagement.”

The chairman noted that the administration had prioritized grassroots development since assuming office, focusing on projects aimed at easing daily challenges for residents. He appealed for continued cooperation between community leaders, market associations, and youth groups to sustain peace and accelerate progress.

Akande also used the opportunity to pray for peace, prosperity, and security in Ibadan South West, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large. He encouraged residents to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of charity to the less privileged during the festivities.

Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It is marked annually with prayers, animal sacrifice, and communal gatherings across Muslim communities.

Political observers note that Sallah messages from local government chairmen often serve to reassure constituents of ongoing projects and to reinforce grassroots support ahead of future political engagements.
