In a refreshing display of political love and intra-party solidarity, the recent courtesy visit by Dr. Stephen Fagbemi, an APM aspirant for the Federal House of Representatives representing Ibadan NorthWest/SouthWest Federal Constituency, to Hon. Saheed Fijabi, a two-term federal legislator and former Chairman of Oyo @ 50 celebrations, has sparked renewed conversations about unity, strategy, and brotherhood in Oyo State politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Described as a “thank you visit,” the meeting went beyond formalities. It reflected a deeper political understanding rooted in respect, shared experience, and the recognition that political success in a diverse constituency often depends on collaboration rather than competition.

Dr. Fagbemi, Chairman of Oyo State Hospital Management Board who hails from Ibadan NorthWest Local Government, used the opportunity to appreciate Hon. Fijabi of Ibadan SouthWest for his political mentorship, goodwill, and longstanding service to the constituency. Fijabi, a seasoned legislator and gubernatorial hopeful, warmly received the aspirant, reinforcing the spirit of mutual respect between two influential figures in the region.

What makes the encounter particularly significant is not just the meeting itself, but the symbolism it carries. In a political landscape often marked by rivalry and fragmentation, the optics of two leaders from different local governments yet within the same federal constituency engaging in open dialogue signals a potential shift toward coalition-building and strategic alignment.

Dr. Fagbemi’s call for collaboration and support ahead of the 2027 general elections further underscores a pragmatic approach to politics. Rather than isolating himself within party lines or personal ambition, the aspirant appears to be embracing a broader vision of inclusive politics where experience and new energy can coexist for electoral success.

Hon. Fijabi’s reception of the delegation also reflects statesmanship. Having served two terms in the House of Representatives and played significant roles in state-level engagements, his position as a political elder places him in a strategic role as a bridge between emerging aspirants and established political structures.

This interaction, therefore, should not be viewed merely as a courtesy call, but as a subtle political statement that suggests that the road to 2027 may be shaped not only by party platforms, but by alliances forged on trust, respect, and shared regional interest.

As Oyo State continues to witness early political alignments ahead of the next general election cycle, the Fagbemi–Fijabi engagement stands out as a reminder that politics, at its best, is about continuity, mentorship, and the collective aspiration to serve.

In the evolving story of Ibadan politics, “two good brothers” on different political journeys may yet find themselves walking toward a common goal: delivering effective representation and strengthening democratic governance in their constituency.
