The candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North State Constituency in the 2027 general election, Hon. Lateef Adebare Lawal Akorede, has stirred reactions after publicly declaring that he is originally from Igangan and not Ayete Community, Peoples Conscience reports.

Akorede, who is also serving as the second-term Executive Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government, made the declaration while addressing APM political functionaries and stakeholders at Methodist Primary School, Oke-Agogo, Igbo-Ora, on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

Amid cheers and applause from supporters, the House of Assembly hopeful stated that he is not from Ayete as widely believed. According to him, his mother hails from Ayelabogo Compound, Iberekodo, Igbo-Ora, while his father is from Oba’s Compound in Igangan.

The Ibarapa-born politician also claimed that he comes from a royal lineage in Igangan, adding that his family holds the traditional Asigangan chieftaincy title.

Akorede made the statement during a ceremony organised to officially introduce the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to party leaders and political stakeholders across Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North State Constituency.

He added that he strongly believes his electoral support and votes will not only come from Ayete Community, where many people associate him with, but also from Igangan and Igbo-Ora, the two communities he identified as his ancestral roots.

His remarks have since generated mixed reactions and conversations among political observers and residents within the constituency, with many expressing surprise over the revelation regarding his ancestral roots.
