The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Akeem Olatunji, has unveiled plans for the construction of a modern motor park at the busy Soka axis of Ibadan.

This move, according to Olatunji, is part of his administration’s strategic efforts to tackle persistent traffic congestion and improve commercial activities within the area.

Olatunji disclosed the development during a grassroots sensitisation visit to Soka on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, where he engaged market men and women, traders, commercial motorcycle operators, tricycle riders and other stakeholders on the proposed project.

According to him, the planned motor park is designed to address the recurring gridlock and frequent traffic-related incidents that have become common along the Soka corridor, while also reorganising the commercial environment into a more structured and modern system.

The council chairman explained that the initiative forms part of a his urban renewal and transportation management strategy geared towards easing movement for commuters and residents who ply the ever-busy Ibadan-Lagos expressway corridor.

Speaking during the engagement, Olatunji said the local government was determined to create a safer and more organised environment for transport operators, traders and residents in the axis.

He further revealed that efforts were ongoing toward the construction of an alternative bridge around Maharaji Village to complement the motor park project and improve connectivity in and around the Soka area.

According to him, the proposed bridge would significantly reduce pressure on existing road networks and enhance traffic flow for motorists entering and leaving the axis.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Oluyole council boss to introduce residents and stakeholders to the Allied People’s Movement, his new political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Olatunji, who is aspiring to represent Oluyole Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, used the occasion to seek grassroots support for his ambition, assuring residents that he would continue to prioritise infrastructural development and people-oriented projects across the constituency.

The sensitisation exercise however, received overwhelming support from community leaders, traders, artisans and transport operators present at the gathering.

Traditional rulers and stakeholders in the Soka community pledged their support for the council chairman and commended his plans to improve the area’s commercial and transportation landscape, describing the move as a welcome development.

Among those who spoke during the event was Mr. Oladiti Asimiyu, described as the overall chairman of the Soka area, who expressed optimism that the proposed motor park and bridge projects would bring lasting relief to residents and business owners.

Others present at the grassroots mobilisation included Hamzat Alaranse, Babaloja of Soka; Chief Kazeem Olupoju, Baale of Faaruku, Soka; representatives of the Park Management System (PMS delegation), traders, artisans and other community stakeholders.

Residents of the area, who also welcomed the council chairman at the meeting noted that the Soka axis has for years remained one of the most congested entry points into Ibadan, with indiscriminate parking, roadside trading and unregulated transport activities contributing heavily to traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns.

Some of the participants expressed hope that the proposed intervention would not only improve traffic management but also stimulate economic growth and restore orderliness to the rapidly expanding commercial hub.
