Hon. Baruwa Officially Joins APM Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ibadan South-West politics took a new turn this week as Hon. Abiodun Adekunle Isola Baruwa, an aspirant for the Oyo State House of Assembly Constituency I seat, formally defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The announcement comes days after Baruwa resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a shift in the buildup to the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.

Announcing the move, Baruwa said: “After careful consultations and deep reflection on the future of our constituency and the political direction we seek, I have officially defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), days after my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This movement is driven by the collective desire to serve the people better and contribute meaningfully to the progress of our constituency,” Baruwa stated.

The Allied Peoples Movement welcomed the aspirant, describing his entry as a boost to the party’s structure and mobilisation efforts in Ibadan South-West. Party officials noted that his grassroots reach positions him as a key contender in the constituency’s race for the state assembly.

Political observers say Baruwa’s move adds to the growing realignment among aspirants in Oyo State, where parties are jostling to strengthen their bases ahead of the polls. Ibadan South-West Constituency I has historically been a competitive seat, with voter turnout and party loyalty often shaping outcomes.

APM has been working to expand its presence in the South-West, positioning itself as an alternative platform for candidates seeking broader political space. Baruwa’s candidacy under the party is expected to test that strategy in one of Ibadan’s most politically active constituencies.

The Oyo State House of Assembly elections are scheduled to hold alongside the general elections in 2027.
