A cross-section of head teachers and School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) chairmen from Olokonla Oke Community on Tuesday paid a thank-you visit to the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, in appreciation of the newly constructed educational infrastructure development across the area.

The visit, held at the council secretariat in Idi Ayunre, had in attendance school administrators, community leaders and stakeholders who commended the Olatunji and lawmakers representing Oluyole state constituency at the 10th Assembly, Hon. Waheed Akintayo.

They thanked the duo for facilitating the construction and renovation of classroom blocks, alongside the provision of boreholes and other modern learning facilities in five public schools in the area.

The delegation said the projects, which include at least three new blocks of classrooms across the benefiting schools, have significantly improved the teaching and learning environment for pupils and teachers.

The schools represented at the meeting included St. James Basic School, Faruku, Community Basic School, Ajofeebo, Awawu Balogun Community Basic School, Ago, Olomi Community Basic School 2, Olomi, and Union of Ratibi, Olokonla.

Also present was the Chairman of Olokonla Oke Community, Mr. Asimiyu Muideen, alongside members of the community.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Olaleye Kayode, Headmaster of Olomi Community Basic School 2, expressed deep appreciation to the council chairman, noting that the gesture reflects a long-standing tradition of kindness associated with his family.

He remarked that the intervention did not come as a surprise, recalling that Engr. Olatunji had been supporting educational development even before assuming office.

“He has consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare of our schools. Even before becoming chairman, he contributed to improving infrastructure, and now in office, he has sustained and expanded those efforts,” Olaleye said.

He urged the chairman to remain steadfast, offering prayers for greater accomplishments and a successful tenure.

In her remarks, Mrs. Fasola A. A., Headmistress of Community Basic School, Ajofeebo, also praised the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for maintaining regular salary payments to teachers, describing it as a morale booster for education workers across the state.

She further lauded Engr. Olatunji for addressing long-standing infrastructural deficits in schools within the local government.

“Before now, pupils had to cope with overcrowded classrooms and inadequate facilities. With these new buildings and improvements, the learning environment has become more conducive, and this will positively impact academic performance,” she said.

Mrs. Fasola added that the chairman has demonstrated capacity and reliability in leadership, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver even at higher levels of responsibility.

Other speakers at the event expressed similar views, describing the interventions as timely and impactful, particularly in underserved communities where access to quality infrastructure has been a challenge.

In his brief remarks, Engr. Olatunji appreciated the delegation for the visit and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising education as a foundation for sustainable development in line with the vision of governor Makinde.

He noted that the collaboration between government, community leaders and school stakeholders remains crucial in ensuring that public schools continue to meet acceptable standards, even at the grassroots.

The event was attended by the Leader of the Oluyole Legislative House, Hon. Taofeek Azeez; the Education Secretary of Oluyole Local Government, Comrade Ganiyu Waheed, and other top LG officials.
