A socio-cultural organisation, Ibadan Progressive Heritage Forum (IPHF), has respectfully advised the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, to maintain neutrality in partisan politics, warning that any perceived political alignment could deepen divisions among the people of Ibadanland.

In a press statement made available to journalists, the group noted that it has closely observed the monarch’s engagements in recent months and commended his efforts at projecting Ibadan on the global stage. According to the group, these efforts are instrumental in positioning the ancient city as a hub for culture, heritage, economic growth, and tourism development.
“While we commend the Olubadan for fostering cordial relations with the Presidency, it is important to emphasise that such engagements should primarily serve the interests of Ibadanland’s development and prosperity, rather than partisan political considerations,” the statement read.

The group further cautioned that politicising the traditional institution could expose the revered throne to unnecessary controversies, thereby undermining its dignity and unifying role. It stressed that the Olubadan’s stool remains a symbol of unity for all sons and daughters of Ibadanland, irrespective of political affiliation.

“We respectfully urge our revered monarch not to be drawn into the dynamics of the forthcoming 2027 Nigerian general elections, as the throne he occupies represents all, and not any particular political interest,” the group added.

The Forum also called on all indigenes of Ibadanland to prioritise unity, collective progress, and the long-term development of the land, while rejecting any narratives capable of fostering division.

“Politics is transient, but the legacy and continued prosperity of Ibadanland must remain paramount,” the statement concluded.
