Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday met with Rabiu Kwankwaso at his residence in Kano.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, Abubakar said they “had quality discussions on the progress” of the party.

“I paid a courtesy visit to the residence of my brother and partner, His Excellency Rabiu Kwankwaso, @KwankwasoRM, this afternoon,” he wrote.

“We had quality discussions on the progress of our party, the ADC, and how we must continue the work to ensure good governance and recovery are achieved in good time for the people.”

In a video shared alongside the post, both politicians reaffirmed their commitment to the ADC and the need for unity within the party.

While addressing Kwankwaso during the visit, the former vice-president said the engagement was on behalf of the ADC leadership and members.

“Your Excellency, I have come on behalf of the ADC and its membership to warmly welcome you,” Abubakar said.

“We have come to assure you of our commitment. It is therefore time for us to unite and to make sure we restore good governance, development and security for everybody in this country.

Responding, Kwankwaso expressed appreciation for the visit and confirmed his alignment with the party, pledging to work with its leadership across all levels.

“I welcome you to my house. I am very much honoured by this visit. We have joined the ADC, and I’m happy to say that my humble self and my group are team players and are ready to work together with all the members and all the leaders of the party,” he said.

He added that the party had so far demonstrated unity at the national level and expressed optimism about its electoral prospects.

“I can comfortably say so far so good; we have been working together with all the members at national level, and we will continue to work with all of you so that by the grace of God, the ADC can win not only in north-western Nigeria but in the entire country,” he said.

Kwankwaso officially joined the ADC on Monday at Kwankwasiyya House in Kano, where he registered as a member of the party and received his membership card ahead of the 2027 elections.

The event was attended by key political figures, including David Mark, national chairman of the ADC; Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto; Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation; Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP); Dino Melaye, former Kogi senator; and John Odigie-Oyegun, former governor of Edo state.

Kwankwaso’s move to the ADC followed his resignation from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), the platform on which he contested the 2023 presidential election.

Announcing his exit, Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve as its national leader and presidential candidate.
