Joshua defeats Ngannou with brutal second-round knockout
In the early hours of Saturday in Saudi Arabia, two-time world champion Anthony Joshua delivered a decisive knockout to mixed martial arts star Francis Ngannou in their heavyweight showdown, just in the second round.
Displaying his punching prowess, Joshua had Ngannou on the mat in the opening round and repeated the feat twice in the following round, showcasing a brief yet fierce exhibition of skill.
Ngannou, aged 37 and a former UFC heavyweight titleholder, was engaging in only his second professional boxing bout after a challenging split decision defeat to Tyson Fury in October. In that match, Ngannou managed to put the WBC champion down in the third round.
Speaking to broadcaster DAZN following his swift triumph, Joshua expressed his interest in the fight spurred by Fury’s match, affirming respect for the British champion’s capabilities. Encouraging Ngannou to stay in the boxing realm after just two fights, Joshua commended his opponent’s effort against one of the best.
Joshua, a previous unified WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion, entered the bout on the heels of three consecutive victories.
