Generally speaking, politics in Nigeria is often driven by pursuit of power. Yet, within this environment, Rep. Abass Adigun, who is popularly known as Agboworin, has steadily carved out a reputation for more enduring and consistent service to the people. Representing Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East in the House of Representatives, he has continued to place welfare of the people at the centre of his public life.

Unarguably, Agboworin has steadily built a reputation anchored not on loud political theatrics, but on sustained service delivery and community-focused interventions.

For many residents and political observers, his style of politics has been less about positioning but more of responsibility.

Even as permutations for 2027 gather momentum across political camps, Agboworin appears more preoccupied with consolidating the developmental footprints he has established within his constituency than with overt political maneuvering. Such is his nature and style.

Since his election into the House of Representatives in 2019 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Agboworin’s legislative tenure has been defined by a combination of constituency empowerment programmes and social welfare initiatives designed to address everyday challenges faced by ordinary people.

Across communities in Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East, his interventions have focused heavily on education, healthcare, youth empowerment, security and small-scale economic support. While many politicians may emphasize infrastructure, Agboworin’s approach has blended human capital development with physical projects.

One of his most widely acknowledged programmes is the after-school academic support initiative for senior secondary students.

The programme provides structured extra lessons for SS1 and SS2 students across the constituency throughout the academic year, aimed at improving performance in critical subjects and preparing students for national examinations.

This initiative, the lawmaker has been running since he was elected to serve the constituency and up to the present moment.

He keeps funding the initiative personally including the payment of teachers in the tutorial centres. He recently sponsored JAMB fees for 100 students who performed extremely well after a mock examination exercise.

In a country where access to quality educational support is often limited to families that can afford private tutorials, the initiative has helped bridge learning gaps for hundreds of students. Beyond the classroom, the lawmaker has equally invested in educational materials, scholarships, and learning infrastructure, ensuring that students from disadvantaged backgrounds are not left behind.

Healthcare delivery has also featured prominently in Agboworin’s constituency agenda. Through the deployment of mobile medical outreach programmes, residents in remote communities have been able to access basic medical consultations, diagnosis, and treatment without the burden of traveling long distances to urban hospitals.

The concept of his mobile clinic initiative has proven particularly beneficial for elderly residents, women, and children who often face barriers to accessing formal healthcare facilities. By bringing healthcare directly to communities, the programme has reduced costs for families while addressing preventable health issues at early stages.

For many constituents, these interventions represent a practical demonstration of responsive representation—one that recognizes the everyday realities of the people.

Another cornerstone of Agboworin’s legislative engagement has been economic empowerment. Through periodic distribution of tools, vocational equipment, and financial support to artisans, traders, and young entrepreneurs, the lawmaker has sought to strengthen livelihoods across the constituency.

These empowerment initiatives have included training programmes designed to equip young people with practical skills in trades such as tailoring, ICT services, catering, and small-scale manufacturing. The objective has been to create sustainable economic opportunities rather than short-term relief.

Observers note that such programmes have gradually contributed to a growing network of small business owners and skilled youths within the constituency—an outcome that aligns with broader goals of local economic resilience.

Beyond constituency projects, Agboworin has also been vocal in national political conversations, particularly within the Peoples Democratic Party.

At a time when internal disagreements have occasionally threatened party cohesion, he has repeatedly expressed confidence in ongoing reconciliation efforts and the ability of party leaders to resolve disputes.

His position has often aligned with the optimistic outlook expressed by Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, who has consistently emphasized unity and strategic rebuilding within the party ahead of future electoral contests.
For Agboworin, party stability is not merely a political necessity but a prerequisite for sustaining developmental governance.

As discussions around the 2027 elections gradually intensify across Ibadan, Oyo State, and the wider political landscape of Nigeria, analysts believe Agboworin’s political relevance will continue to grow.

While he has not publicly declared any ambition beyond his current legislative responsibilities, political observers argue that his steady grassroots engagement positions him as a significant figure in the evolving calculations of the state’s political future.

In an era when public trust in political leadership is frequently strained, Agboworin’s style of representation reflects a different approach—one rooted in steady engagement with constituents and a consistent effort to translate political office into tangible benefits for the people.

Now that the 2027 is approaching, the question for many observers may not simply be about what office Agboworin might seek, but about how the model of representation he has cultivated could influence broader political expectations in Oyo State.

For now, however, his focus appears unchanged: continuing the work of serving the people who entrusted him with their mandate. And in the unfolding story of Oyo politics, that preoccupation with service may ultimately prove to be his most defining political asset.
