Residents of Ibadan, particularly senior citizens, are set to benefit from a health and wellness initiative tagged “Active Life for Senior Citizens 2.0,” organised by Hon. Akinsete Olakunle (Shete), the Special Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State on Urban Development in collaboration with OrayFit.

The programme, designed specifically for individuals aged 50 years and above, aims to promote healthy living, physical fitness, and social interaction among elderly residents in the community.
According to the organisers, the event will take place on March 28 at the Capitalinn Hotel Car Park, Oluyole Estate, between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

The initiative will feature several health-focused activities including free medical check-ups, aerobics sessions, music, networking opportunities, and distribution of free items to participants. Organisers say the programme is part of ongoing efforts to encourage active lifestyles among older adults while also fostering community bonding.


Hon. Akinsete who is also an aspirant for Oyo State House of Assembly (Ibadan SouthWest II) noted that the initiative reflects his commitment to the wellbeing of senior citizens, emphasizing that maintaining an active lifestyle is key to longevity and improved quality of life.
Fitness instructors from OrayFit will lead participants through safe and engaging exercise routines tailored to older adults, while medical professionals will be on ground to conduct basic health screenings.

Although primarily designed for people aged 50 and above, the organisers disclosed that the event is open to all members of the public, encouraging families and younger residents to join in supporting their elders.

Attendance is free, and participants have been advised to come in gym wear or exercise clothing with sneakers to enable them take part fully in the fitness sessions.
