Ibadan, Nigeria

In moments of deep political turbulence, when institutions tremble and structures appear uncertain, history shows that leaders often return to the most powerful force known to man; faith. That was the unmistakable statement made when the Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State, led by the Chairman of Chairmen, Chief Femi Falowo, converged on the OmiTuntun House in Ibadan for a marathon inter-religious prayer session.
This was no routine religious gathering. It was a strategic political declaration.

At the heart of Nigeria’s PDP crisis lies a dangerous power struggle capable of redefining the party’s future. Courtrooms have become battlegrounds, factions have hardened, and loyalties are being tested nationwide. In this tense atmosphere, the Oyo PDP leadership, firmly anchored behind Governor Seyi Makinde and the Turaki-led faction, chose not to sit idle, hoping for judicial luck. Instead, they acted, decisively, symbolically, and forcefully.

For over five hours, respected Christian and Muslim clerics led searing intercessions, demanding divine justice, political clarity, and decisive victory. The message was unmistakable: Oyo PDP will not surrender its political destiny to uncertainty, internal sabotage, or judicial gamble. The Victory must be granted to the GSM-led faction.
More than ten pastors and prophets ignited the spiritual furnace, calling down intervention and restoration. This was followed by solemn Islamic supplications led by Imam Lanase, as Qur’anic verses filled the atmosphere with gravity and resolve. Together, both faiths projected a unified demand for victory, justice, and stability, a powerful reminder that politics, in Africa, remains deeply intertwined with spirituality.

But beyond faith, the gathering was a resounding political endorsement of Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership. It was a public reaffirmation of Oyo PDP’s unwavering alignment with the Turaki-led faction, a bloc widely seen as the last credible force capable of rescuing the PDP from systemic collapse.

In Nigeria’s volatile political ecosystem, silence is often mistaken for weakness. Oyo PDP refused that narrative. By mobilizing both political authority and spiritual legitimacy, the party leadership sent a firm signal to opponents and skeptics alike: the Oyo structure is united, alert, and battle-ready.
This gathering also exposes a deeper truth, that the PDP’s national crisis cannot be resolved by court verdicts alone. It demands moral authority, political courage, and grassroots legitimacy. These are assets Governor Makinde currently commands in abundance, having built one of the most disciplined and electorally potent PDP structures in the country.
As the judicial and political chessboard continues to shift, one fact now stands beyond dispute: Oyo State has drawn its battle line. And it has drawn it boldly.
In a season of political ambiguity, the message from OmiTuntun House rings loud and clear, when the future of a political institution is at stake, hesitation is defeat.
