Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), at his private hilltop residence in Minna, the Niger State capital, in a development that has stirred political interest ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku was said to have arrived at the residence shortly after 1pm and proceeded straight into a private session with his host.

The meeting was later expanded with the arrival of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, about 40 minutes after Atiku’s arrival.

Sources familiar with the discussion disclosed that the talks centred on key national issues, including electoral reforms, the electronic transmission of election results, emerging tax laws and other matters of national importance. The consultation was described as strategic, coming at a time of heightened public debate over electoral credibility and governance reforms ahead of the next general elections.

The presence of Governor Makinde at the high-level meeting further fuelled speculation about its political significance, especially against the backdrop of ongoing realignments and consultations within Nigeria’s political space.

Neither Atiku nor Governor Makinde was immediately available to speak to journalists on the purpose or outcome of the meeting. However, it was gathered that either Atiku or General Babangida may address the press after the conclusion of the closed-door talks.

As of the time of filing this report, the meeting was still ongoing and details of the resolutions, if any, had yet to be made public.
