ADO-AWAYE PROGRESSIVE YOUTHS MOVEMENT (A.P.Y.M)

ADO-AWAYE YOUTHS KICK AGAINST THE PLANNED CONFERMENT OF CHIEFTAINCY TITLES TO 10 FULANIS BY ALADO PALACE

Date: 28th January, 2026

The leadership of the Ado-Awaye Progressive Youths Movement (A.P.Y.M) wishes to formally address the people of Ado-Awaye, relevant authorities, and the general public regarding the recent chieftaincy appointment of Fulani individuals by the Palace of the Alado of Ado-Awaye.

We hereby state categorically that Ado-Awaye youths were neither consulted nor involved in the process leading to this appointment. Consequently, we formally distance ourselves from the said chieftaincy appointment and from any claims suggesting our endorsement or support.

While we recognize and respect the diversity and peaceful coexistence of all ethnic groups within Ado-Awaye, we strongly emphasize that chieftaincy appointments must strictly adhere to established traditional customs, historical practices, and due process. Any deviation from these principles, without broad consultation with key stakeholders and the wider community, risks undermining unity, cultural heritage, and social harmony.

We therefore respectfully call on Kabiyesi, His Royal Majesty, Ọba Rev’d Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi Makuledoye II, the Alado of Ado-Awaye, to clarify the circumstances surrounding this appointment and to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Local Government Authorities, traditional leaders, community elders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to ensure peace, transparency, and mutual understanding.

⸻

STATEMENT OF FACT

1. Confirmation of Chieftaincy Title to Fulani Individuals

This development may, in due course, lead to claims of indigenous status in Ado-Awaye, which raises serious concerns among community members.

2. Threat to Peace and Communal Stability

The appointment has generated dissatisfaction among various groups and families, posing a serious risk of conflict and a possible breakdown of law and order in Ado-Awaye.

3. Prevailing Insecurity in Nigeria

It is well known that Nigeria is currently facing significant security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes, and other violent crimes. This chieftaincy action may, in the long term, expose Ado-Awaye to similar security challenges currently being experienced in parts of Kwara State and other affected areas as this purported action was the genesis of how insecurity in the affected areas degenerated to the present state.

⸻

OUR DEMANDS / PRAYERS

1. Immediate reversal of the controversial chieftaincy appointment made by the Alado of Ado-Awaye Kingdom.

2. Immediate suspension of the proposed second phase of the chieftaincy exercise.

3. Strict adherence to customary laws, traditions, and due process in all future chieftaincy appointments in Ado-Awaye.

⸻

The Ado-Awaye Progressive Youths Movement (A.P.Y.M) remains committed to promoting peace, justice, cultural integrity, and sustainable development in Ado-Awaye.

We urge all youths and residents of Ado-Awaye to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as efforts are made to address this matter through peaceful, lawful, and legitimate channels.

Thank you.
