The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, has taken a major step toward strengthening livestock healthcare in Oyo State with the donation of a prime parcel of land for the construction of a modern veterinary hospital in the council area.
The proposed facility, to be developed under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, Oyo-LPRES, is expected to deliver advanced animal health services, including high-tech diagnostics, vaccination, and other critical interventions targeted at improving livestock productivity and farmers’ livelihoods.
Olatunji said the proposed veterinary hospital, when completed, is expected to further position Oluyole Local Government as a hub for agricultural innovation and sustainable livestock development in Oyo State.
Olatunji formally presented the land to the Oyo-LPRES inspection team during an inspection visit to the proposed site for the project construction within the Local Government Secretariat at Idi-Ayunre on Tuesday, January 6.
He assured the delegation and other stakeholders present that all critical requirements for the project were already in place, including adequate security, access roads, and reliable electricity supply that can be readily tapped into.
He explained that the move was in line with the vision of governor Seyi Makinde in the area of food security and safety particularly, meat usually extracted from livestock.
He assured that the local government is opened to deeper level of collaboration and synergy with relevant stakeholders in both public and private sectors to ensure that livestock within the LG, including domestic animals and pets, do not face health risks as a result of poor access to modern healthcare facilities.
Olatunji equally expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for appointing Dr. Debo Akande to oversee the agribusiness sector in the state, describing the appointment as strategic and timely for the transformation of livestock development.
Olatunji said the decision to allocate the land was driven by his long-term vision for Oluyole Local Government, noting that true development is measured by long term impact, not immediate financial value.
“The land being offered is worth millions of naira, but money only has value for today. The impact on lives and the legacy we leave behind will endure long after we are out of office,” he said.
He added that his administration remains committed to developing Oluyole across all sectors in a way that future generations will be proud of.
Speaking during the visit, the Oyo-LPRES State Coordinator, Alhaji Kola Kazeem, commended Governor Makinde, Dr. Debo Akande, and Engr. Olatunji for their support and shared commitment to agriculture and agribusiness development.
Alhaji Kazeem explained that the veterinary hospital project is designed to boost livestock health, enhance productivity, and improve the overall wellbeing of farmers and their communities across the state.
According to him, the model hospital will be equipped with modern facilities and advanced equipment capable of delivering top-tier services such as animal disease diagnostics, vaccination, and other essential animal health solutions.
Present were the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA) Oyewale Ayanrinde Mosunmola and Akinade Abayomi.
Members of the Oyo-LPRES delegation included Engr. Peter Kolawole, Project Engineer; Dr. Ayo Famakinnde, Animal Health expert; Pastor Odedele Solomon, Animal Husbandry specialist; and Mr. Kunle Akande, Environmental and Social Safeguard Officer.
