A Titan Departs: Chief Ogunbowale Abiona’s Death Leaves a Deep Void in Ibarapa Central*

The Executive Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Olusola Adeleke has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief (Com.) Ogunbowale Abiona Olukunle, the Agba-Akin of Idere Land, who passed away at the age of 73.

In his condolence message made available by his personal assistant Azeez Sodiq, Hon. Adeleke described Chief Abiona as a revered statesman, a bridge-builder and one of the most respected custodians of communal values in Idere and the entire Ibarapa Central. He noted that the late Chief lived a life marked by courage, service and steadfast commitment to the progress of his people.

“Chief Ogunbowale Abiona was more than a traditional titleholder; he was a symbol of unity, strength and wisdom in Idere Land. His contributions to peacebuilding, community development and cultural preservation will remain indelible in the history of our local government,” the Chairman said.

Hon. Adeleke further condoled with the Onidere of Idere Land, members of the traditional council, the immediate family of the deceased and the entire Idere community, describing the loss as a painful one for all who valued his leadership and forthrightness.

He added that Chief Abiona’s passing has created a significant vacuum, especially at a time when the community relies heavily on elders of integrity to guide the younger generation and sustain communal harmony.

“As we mourn this great son of Idere, we also celebrate a life well spent. His legacy will continue to inspire us as a people, and his decades of selfless service will remain a reference point for community leadership,” Hon. Adeleke stated.

The Chairman prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed Chief and urged the family to take solace in the remarkable impact he made throughout his lifetime.
